The Year of the Decapitated Angel

I awoke one morning and tottered down the stairs for some coffee and discovered that some elves (Nana and Papa) had delivered a beautiful tree to our living room. Later that afternoon, Elrod decorated the tree with the cherished ornaments of our childhood.

That night I sat in my room with son trying not to feel hormonal and overwhelmed when I heard a big crash. Mom assured me it was Dad; I assured her it was the tree. Unfortunately I was right and immediately burst into tears, convinced that every ornament had broken into a thousand pieces.

Thankfully, the only casualties were a camel with a broken leg and a singular decapitated angel.

a son is born

Elrod and Dorothy welcomed their son into the world on December 19, at 12:17 PM. He weighed 8lbs 14oz and was immediately heralded as practically perfect in every way. We know he's not perfect but we'll choose to ignore that little theological detail for at least a day or two.

We stayed in the hospital for two days and then brought the little creature home where he was greeted by two sets of loving grandparents. The number of times he was photographed in the first days of life is a portent of the digital age into which he is born.
